Tiense Sugar Refinery is the market leader in Belgium and has been producing sugar from locally grown sugar beet since 1836. The company has six sites in Belgium and the Netherlands and works with 3,500 beet growers. Well-known products are Hard Lumps and Cassonade Graeffe.
Sugar production creates several product streams, each of which has to go to a specific storage bunker. The distribution of these flows had to be automatic, with the ability to quickly switch between bunkers. In addition, the machine had to comply with ATEX directives because of the explosion hazard of sugar dust.
SMO developed a sugar distribution system with six chutes. The tubes are movable via a motor spindle and can be positioned above the appropriate storage bunker. The complete machine was realised in compliance with ATEX and food directives.
