The Customer

Elia is Belgium's high-voltage (30 kV to 380 kV) system operator. It operates more than 8,900 km of overhead lines and underground cables and ensures the balance between electricity generation and consumption in Belgium 24/7. Elia is part of Elia Group, one of Europe's five largest transmission system operators.

The Challenge

When working on the high-voltage grid, heavy cables have to be coiled. Manual coiling is physically demanding and time-consuming. Elia was looking for an ergonomic solution that makes work easier for technicians.

The solution

SMO produced a reel unit that makes reeling heavy cables more ergonomic and easier. The unit reduces physical strain and speeds up the reeling process.
