At SMO, you don’t spend your time designing the same machine over and over again. You work on several bespoke projects at the same time, which means no two working weeks are ever the same. One day you might be designing a sawing system for the nuclear sector, the next you’ll be working on a production line for the food industry, developing an automatic log sorting machine, or devising a completely new automation solution for another sector.

What’s more, our projects have a relatively short lead time. So your design won’t just remain on paper for years: a few months later, you’ll often find yourself standing right next to the machine during its assembly, testing and commissioning. You’ll see your ideas become reality and be involved from the very first sketch right through to a working machine. That makes the job both technically challenging and particularly hands-on.

Your challenge

As a Project Manager, you are responsible for your own projects, from the initial contact with the client right through to completion. You combine technical expertise with creativity and ensure that every project is delivered to a high standard, within budget and on schedule.

What you do

  • Together with the client, you analyse the technical requirements and help devise the best solution.
  • You will develop concepts and discuss them with colleagues and clients.
  • You will draw up quotations and budgets and present your proposal in a professional manner.
  • You will convert the approved concept into a technical 3D design.
  • You will ensure efficient project planning and monitor the schedule.
  • During the installation, you will monitor your project and ensure its quality and functionality.
  • You are the point of contact for handover, fine-tuning, servicing and aftercare.
  • You will manage your projects in accordance with administrative procedures and report directly to the Head of Engineering.

What to bring with you

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanics or a degree in Industrial Engineering (Electrical and Mechanical Engineering).
  • Experience with a 3D CAD package. Knowledge of Inventor and/or Tekla is an advantage.
  • Experience with process or strength calculations would be an advantage.
  • A good knowledge of English. French and/or German are an added bonus.
  • Category B driving licence.

This is how you work

  • You think in terms of solutions and take the initiative.
  • You combine creativity with technical insight.
  • You work both independently and enjoy working with colleagues.
  • You are customer-focused and have an eye for quality and safety.
  • You keep a cool head when you’re juggling several projects at once.
  • You are flexible and feel at home in a dynamic SME environment
