Carefully remove brittle radiator fins from the press
The Customer
A manufacturer of radiators, which punches aluminium fins as part of its production process. The fins are stamped into packages and have to be tipped and deposited after the press for further processing.
The Challenge
The stamped aluminium fins are extremely brittle and fold immediately when handled incorrectly. Manual picking up, tilting and depositing was labour-intensive, ergonomically burdensome and error-prone. Every wrong move damaged the product beyond repair.
The machine in action
The solution
SMO developed an automated manipulator that takes packages of stamped radiator fins from the production press, gently tilts them and places them on a cart. The machine is specifically designed for sensitive handling of brittle materials.
The customer now operates three of these machines. The result: higher speed, better ergonomics, and a greatly reduced error rate.
