15-tonne storage capacity for uninterrupted production
The Customer
Willems Biscuits in Eeklo is part of the Lotus Bakeries Group and one of the world's leading caramelised biscuit producers. For more than 70 years, the company has produced caramelised biscuits and caramelised biscuit paste for private labels. Production takes place in Meetjesland, the region where caramelised biscuits originated.
The Challenge
The existing pasta line had insufficient capacity. Both processing speed and buffer capacity were too low to keep production running smoothly. The plant needed more storage space for base material without interrupting workflow.
The solution
SMO developed a storage bunker with a capacity of more than 15 tonnes of base material. The bunker is automatically loaded via a bin-tipping system at ground level, connected to conveyor screws. A screw in the belly of the bunker extracts the material for grinding. It is then weight-controlled dosed into a mixing tank.
The system is prepared for future expansion with a second bunker.
